Crafting Storage

I have hated my craft storage for quite some time. I previously stored everything that I could in an extra dresser we had, which is housed inside the spare bedroom closet. The problem was that everything didn't fit, and stuff had to be taken out to get to the stuff out underneath of it. We have this piece from Ikea, but in yellow. It's from the first line of this piece from the Hemnes line, and we got it when we bought the house to store our linens in. However, due to my eyes being over eager, it didn't actually fit into our bedroom with our other necessary furniture. So, originally, this piece was my hutch in the dining room. This worked fine, except I really wanted it upstairs to hold the linens. Then, my dad got a free dining room hutch from a coworker that they were going to throw away, and Eureka!, my problem was solved. So, Hubby helped me haul it up the stairs, to its new home in the landing/hallway area. It fit fine, but I still wasn't completely happy with it there either. I stored linens, extra curtains, and the drawers were our "junk" drawers. After one particularly obsessive session on Pinterest, I was intrigued by the crafting storage. The image to the left is my favorite. And, it just so happens that my linen closet is similar in size and shelving.
My crafting "hutch"

So, today, I spent the day scouring through the house to find bins, boxes, cans, etc. to store my items in. I then spent some time arranging my crafting supplies in the "linen closet". I still can't fit everything- like my Cricut or my sewing machines, but, everything else fits (so far)! As you can see, it's not exactly the way I want it yet, but it's closer. It's much better than the dresser. (I really just swapped the craft supplies and the linens. The linens are now in the extra dresser.) I was lucky that we had the tins already, just collecting dust- so now they have a purpose. The basket with my material used to just be sitting in the coat closet, serving no purpose. And the other containers were already holding much of my crafting supplies. I am storing my Cricut on top for now, but we'll see where it ends up.

I keep pinning things I see that I like, because someday, I hope to have my own craft room/office (in our next house is what Hubby and I say). But today, it's extremely satisfying reusing the furniture that we already have, the tins, baskets, and containers that we already have, and just making it more fun to look at and inspirational. In our next house, hopefully this piece will be a staple in my craft room, and not the sole source of crafting supplies!

One of the best things about this new solution is that I can see it on my way downstairs everyday to serve as a reminder of the things I want to do, and as inspiration to actually craft! Making use of already had items, and utilizing small  space efficiently is my favorite thing.

Where do you store your crafting supplies?
