Lenten Season

It's Ash Wednesday and that means it's the beginning of Lent. At the beginning of this year, I made a resolution to do a better job of making time for personal devotions and reading my Bible more. Hubby and I also started doing devotions together. This is something that I have always wanted to do together because I want it to be a habit that our kids pick up from us. I also wanted to grow in my faith so I needed to spend more time alone with God to do so. So far, so good. I remember being told once that "You are only as close to God as you want to be" and that was speaking to me as we went into 2013. I feel like the last 6-8 months have been a roller coaster of job decisions and future decisions and I have found myself seeking God more than I ever have (not a bad thing by any means- at least not by my standards!).

Lately, I have been feeling increasingly busy and overrun with commitments that by the time they roll around, I am a little bitter about having committed to them in the first place. I also have been feeling like I am not getting any time to do some of the projects I have going on in my head- whether it's knitting, crafting, getting ready for my garden, or whatever else (Pinterest may be the cause but the jury is still out on that one!). So, when Ash Wednesday rolled around, I felt like I needed to give something up so that I did not feel so rundown and overwhelmed by commitments and wanting to do things for myself. I debated with myself on what to give up, but the final decision was TV. While I don't think I watch much TV, I do find myself just lazily watching it if it's already on. That is time I could be intentionally spending with God or working on a project that I want to complete. Since it's "my Lent", I did make some rules to help make it a bit easier. Hubby likes the TV for background noise or to watch. If I am in the kitchen cooking (I am doing most of the cooking now!) and he is watching, I am not going to ask him to turn it off- that's not fair to him (We have an open floor plan so there is no dividing wall). That also goes for other people! I am going to allow myself a maximum of 3 hours a week. Let's be real here, I do have some favorite shows that I am going to be giving up for the 40 days, but I would like to snuggle on the couch sometimes with the pups and the Hubby to watch a movie or something. I also like to watch the news occasionally in the morning so that is allowed within the 3 hour limit.

Finally, also during this lenten season, I am going to be doing a Photo Challenge. A friend of mine posted it on Instagram and I thought it was awesome. I have always wanted to go a photo challenge, but never got around to looking for one or making my own. Here is the link to the challenge. My goal is to post the photos everyday onto Twitter and Instagram, but to also do a recap every Friday on here! We'll see how it goes!
