#Naptime Pursuits: Cookie Exchange

Last week I attended a cookie exchange at a friend's house. I had to take 8 dozen cookies with me, and there were about 16 of us there to exchange with. This was the second annual one, and I was looking forward to it- and to taking Baby H with me this year. (This time last year, I was desperately taking a pregnancy test, hoping and praying for a positive!) The cookie exchange was on a Wednesday, so I decided to bake the cookies on Tuesday during her nap times.

Don't mind my messy counter... no nap=no caring what the counter looks like :-/
Well, the little lady had other plans for me. She decided that on this particular Tuesday, she was only going to take 30 minute naps throughout the day, making my plans of baking 8 dozen cookies null and void. That wasn't enough time to get cookies done, and I figured I would be turning the oven on and off so many times, that it would be completely wasteful.  I had even planned on baking a simple cookie to ensure that I would be able to get them done during nap times. By 3 o'clock, I was counting the minutes until Hubby came home so that he would play with her while I baked the cookies (I feel guilty putting her down when she is awake- I love to play with her when she is awake, doing tummy time, talking, and just enjoying her alertness). Oh, and dinner needed to still be figured out.

I decided to put my big girl panties on, and try to bake while wearing the little lady. I wrapped myself in my Moby Wrap, tucked Baby H into it, and got to baking. Here is the link to to the recipe I used. I used a premade pie crust to make this a quick process. Thank God I had that already planned because there is no way I would have been able to make pie crust and bake the cookies with the way she was napping on my baking day.

Of course, mine didn't look as pretty, symmetrical or as perfect as the recipe I followed, but they didn't taste half bad. I would have liked them better with homemade crust, but I'm learning to "go with the flow" a lot more and to be ok with taking shortcuts. And, of course, I didn't take a picture of an actual cookie... womp, womp.

Looking forward to next year's exchange!

  1. I love this idea for a get together! You guys have soooo many cookies! And who cares if they are symmetrical, they still taste the same! :)

  2. Mine are never pretty or symmetrical! But as long as they taste good, and are made with love, who cares? :)

  3. This looks like so much fun - I always wanted to be part of an exchange!

  4. I love cookies exchanges. Looks like everyone had fun!
